RAKTHA CHARITRA - 2 moview review

The film Rakta Chartira hit the screens last month and it got good reviews. So the expectations of the second part ran very high and the sequel hit the screens today. Let us see how far RGV has succeeded in meeting the expectations of the audiences.

Story

RGV ended the first part of the film at the interval part by showing only the rise of Prathap Ravi and how he roes in politics. In the second part the film begins at this point and it shows Suryanaryana Reddy (Surya) seething with rage and restless.

Surya wants to take revenge on Prathap Ravi. The problem is that Prathap is now a powerful politician. Surya makes an attempt to kill Prathap by bomb attack.

While Prthap manages to escape from the bomb attack, Surya is caught and put behind bars. DCP Sudeep takes Surya�s wife Bhavani (Priyamani) hostage and forces Surya to surrender.

Now the revenge game gets serious. While Prathap wants to take revenge on Surya by killing his wife Bhavani, Prathap�s wife Nandini manages to convince his wife that this is unfair.

Surya continues to plot from jail and his only aim is to kill Prathap. On the other hand some politicians try to take advantage of the feud and try to make Bhavani contest polls by offering her a ticket.

Prathap then goes to meet Surya in jail and offers to make peace. However Surya rejects this outright and tells Prathp that he will not rest until he avenges the killing of his father, mother, brother and sister.

Surya makes friendship with Moddu Krishna and with his help manages to get Prathap killed.

Performance:

Surya is the right choice for the role of Suryanarayana Reddy. Surya brings the required intensity to the role. Surya with his expressive eyes conveys many emotions effortlessly.

Vivek Oberoi has done justice to the role. Priyamani is good and she along with Radhika Apte has done a net job s per the requirements of the story.

Subhalaeka Sudhakar impress with his role as the right hand man of the pedda sir. The rest are okay.

Analysis

Rakta Charitra 2 raised a lot of expectations and everyone wanted to see whether RGV will show Partiala Ravi as hero or Suri as hero. In the end RGV shows Suri as the real hero.

This may not go down well with the followers of Paritala Ravi. RGV has also taken some liberties in making some inferences that are not in tune with reality.

While the first part was racy with action and suspense the second part is a bit slow. There is no violence and most of the story is conveyed through emotions � Surya in particular. The best thing about the film is the photography.

The film will appeal to only a limited section of the audience but thanks to the controversy and publicity the film has managed to get some good openings.

Verdict

Rakta Charitra 2 is not in the same league or intensity as Rakta Charitra 1. It is still a decent film and can be watched once.

Those who have watched the film say that RGV would have done well to make the film in just one part instead of dividing it into two. Then Rakta Charitra may have become a bigger success.

Rakta Charitra 2 ends up as a average film targeted at just one section of the audience.

MANASARA movie review

Below Average

Ravi Babu is not only a well known comedian cum character artist but is also a competent director. He has made some different and offbeat films that have received good response for the audience. His film �Nacchavule� was a runaway hit. Let us see what he has churned up with Manasara this time.

Story:

The story is about Vikram (Vikram) the son of a bank employee. The parents of Vikram are all the time fighting for silly reasons. Vikram lands in a small village in Kerala where his father has been transferred. The family of Vikram rents out a portion in the house of Bhanuchander.

The hero meets the heroine Anjali (Sri Divya) and it is love at first sight for the hero. There is a twist in the tale. Divya�s baava George is the stumbling block in the romance between the lovers.

The small village is famous for its traditional martial arts form Kalari Payattu. Any problem is usually resolved through Kalari.

So the love of the hero is now put on test. The hero has to take on the sturdy George who is an accomplished Kalari master. Will the meek and timid hero manage to defeat the mighty George and win his love? Watch this on the screen.

Performance:

Vikram is a newcomer and he needs to improve a lot both in the acting department as well as dialogue delivery. He however is okay in his role as a weak and meek guy.

Sri Divya is another newcomer. She is just okay and her role leaves little scope for her to perform and all that she is left to do is wither flash a smile or weep.

Bhanuchander is a senior actor and he does full justice to his role. He is the one who impresses the most in the movie.

George who plays villain is okay with his sharp features. He has come up with a decent performance and he also has a good screen presence. The others from Annapurna to MS Narayana were just okay in their roles.

Analysis:

The film is not novel in content and one is reminded of some films like Jayam and some other Hollywood films that have a similar theme.

The film is weak in story, screenplay and except for technical values there is noting much to speak about the film. The music and a couple of songs are good. The comedy is also very routine and weak.

Verdict: Manasara is a film that deals with a theme that is quite old and has been repeated in several films. The film starts on a slow note and there is noting much happening till the interval. The second half picks up pace but again the climax drags testing the patience of the audience.

Manasara comes as a disappointment to all those who expect something new and novel from Ravi Babu.

Director EVV Satyanarayana is known for his slapstick comedies. Allari Naresh has proved himself as a comedy hero. So a film in their combination will naturally raise the expectations of the audience. Let us see how far this Kathi Kantha Rao manages to regale the audience.

Story:

Kathi Kantha Rao (Allari Naresh) is a straight forward and honest cop. He is the son of Dharmavarapu a home guard who has been suspended and therefore has no work but to sit idle at home.

Kantha Rao has a host of family problems. He has four sisters. While his two elder sisters are married and his two younger sisters are yet to be married. To make matters worse for him his father imposes a condition that he should not marry till his younger sisters are married.

The other problem for Kantha Rao is that the husbands of his two married sisters Krishna Bhagawan and Srinivas Reddy harass all the time for more gifts and dowry.

While Kantha Rao has promised his dad that he will not marry till his sisters are settled he in fact has already married Kamna Jethmalani secretly.

Kantha Rao manages to find suitable alliances for his younger sisters. At this time Jeeva the boss of Kantha Rao tells the family of the hero that he is already married.

Kantha Rao is now in a fix. The scene now shifts to the native place of the heroine. The heroine�s father Kota is fighting for a local election and it is now up to Kantha Rao to ensure that he defeats his rival Ahuthi Prasad. The rest of the story is predictable.

Performance:

Allari Naresh as usual comes up with another rib tickling performance. He has done such roles many times before but he still manages to evoke laughter film after film. Kamna Jethmalani doesn�t have much to do. Kota is excellent and he gives a good performance. Venu Madhav manages to raise some laughs as the side kick of the hero.

The others from Krishna Bhagawan, Srinivas Reddy, Jeeva, Ahuthi Prasad, Raghu Babu and others add their bit to the film.

Analysis:

Kathi Kantha Rao is yet another routine slap stick comedy. There is not much novelty in the story or the screenplay but the deft handling of EVV and the funny dialogues and situational comedy makes the film fun to watch. EVV manages to churn out a decent comic caper.

Verdict:

Kathi Kantha is set in the city and a village. The movie manages to entertain before as well as the interval. EVV makes fun of politics, films and even cops. The audience is seen having a good laugh every now and then. Kathi Kantha Rao is a decent time pass flick.

Problem of plenty is good: Gambhir....

Chennai: Despite a 4-0 lead, his side had approached the fifth ODI here with all seriousness, said India skipper Gautam Gambhir.

“We never take any game lightly. Everybody wants to do well. There is no room for complacency,” he said.

Asked about a few close battles for places in the World Cup squad, he said, “The problem of the plenty is good. There is healthy competition in the dressing room and the field of play. We are a completely professional side.”

Friday's defeat here was New Zealand's 10th successive ODI loss. The New Zealand captain said there was plenty of assistance for the spinners from the pitch.

“We wanted to put up a good score but the ball turned and bounced. Batting was not easy. And we lost wickets at regular intervals.”

Vettori said his team had to rebound with a good display against Pakistan at home.

“We will also have to play plenty of domestic cricket to find form.”

On his role as captain, Vettori said, “I have given it my best shot. But there are people above me who decide whether I stay or not.”

NEW DELHI: Political opponents are seeing red over Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh's departure from India's long-standing climate change policy at the United Nations summit in Cancun, where he said all countries must take on binding commitments “in appropriate legal form.”

Leaders from both the left and right sides of the political spectrum have criticised the Minister's stance as a “volte face” and a “sell-out,” demanding that the government make clear whether it authorised his statement.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders pointed out that Mr. Ramesh's statement went against his assurance to Parliament a year ago that India would “under no circumstances accept a legally binding emission reduction cut.”

“The stand that the Minister has taken is contrary to the parliamentary mandate,” Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said, adding it did not represent India's aspirations. “His ‘ flexibility' has compromised India's interest. He has broken alliances [with China], which were formed after years of hard work… The Government of India must explain why this ‘crawl' is being undertaken in the matter under the garb of flexibility.”

CPI national secretary D. Raja was equally scathing. “The government should clearly explain whether the Minister was given a mandate for such a departure from status quo, or whether he spoke on his own,” he said. “It is clear that the government is under tremendous pressure from the U.S. and developed countries. The government should not be afraid of getting isolated. No one can isolate India.”

In Cancun, Mr. Ramesh had defended himself, saying there was pressure from a number of countries, and his statement had given India room for manoeuvrability and flexibility. But Opposition leaders were unconvinced by his clarifications that he was working under a Cabinet mandate and that his statement did not mean that India would take on any legally binding commitment “at this stage.” “This obvious contradiction is incomprehensible,” Mr. Jaitley said. “Either the Minister feels that he is too clever by halves or that the nation is incapable of comprehending his volte face.”

Jagan defies party fiat, held after clashes

HYDERABAD: Defying his party's direction, Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy went ahead with his ‘odarpu yatra' in Warangal district on Friday.

But the programme had to be abandoned as clashes broke out between Telangana supporters and Congress workers at Mahbubabad, culminating in the police opening fire.

Mr. Reddy was taken into preventive custody aboard the Secunderabad-Guntur Inter City Express by which he was travelling to Mahbubabad and escorted back in a bulletproof vehicle to his residence at Banjara Hills here. He, however, vowed to undertake the ‘yatra' at a later date, even as the Congress high command decided to initiate disciplinary action by serving a show-cause notice on him.

The ‘yatra' was meant to console the families of those who died after the death of his father, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in a helicopter crash.

Mr. Reddy's detention followed pitched battles between supporters of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and his followers at the Mahbubabad railway station, located on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route. The violence left 24 persons injured, including a protester who is in a critical condition with bullet injuries.

DGP R.R. Girish Kumar said nine Telangana activists sustained bullet injuries when the official gunmen of Congress MLA Konda Surekha, her husband and MLC Konda Murali and local MLA M. Kavita opened fire.
